Maxine Waters’ 2025 amendment to the CLARITY Act, the Crypto Investor and Consumer Protection Act, into a broader crypto market-structure bill in the next Congress, crypto reporter Eleanor Terrett said on X, citing three industry sources briefed by Democratic staff. The proposal would fold in Waters’ earlier unadopted Democratic CLARITY version and Senate Democratic provisions agreed with Republicans before September’s cloture vote, and could give the SEC a larger crypto oversight role while narrowing the CFTC’s, plus ethics limits on Trump and other federal officials’ crypto activity.
