Cointime update: Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren is expected to become chair of the Senate Banking Committee in January, when Democrats take control of Congress, pending a party decision in the coming weeks. As chair she would gain subpoena power and control of the committee agenda. A source said Warren may investigate the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency’s August approval of a bank charter for Trump-backed World Liberty Financial, and the Trump administration’s mass firings of financial regulators and efforts to shut the CFPB.
