Cointime update: Bitcoin core developer Cory Fields has proposed a “quantum landmine” mechanism that would require extra collateral and a waiting period before vulnerable bitcoin can be moved, raising the cost of future quantum attacks on old wallets. Legitimate holders could prove ownership within the window to reclaim their assets and the attacker’s collateral. Fields also proposed challengeable auctions for dormant coins whose private keys are lost. The proposal is not yet an implemented network rule.
