Cointime update: Bitcoin Core developer Cory Fields on Nov. 6 proposed a “quantum mine” scheme requiring attackers who use future quantum computers to steal bitcoin to first post an equal amount of BTC as collateral. Original holders could pre-set hidden ownership proofs and reclaim their coins within a lock-up period of about 30 days, seizing the thief’s collateral. Fields also floated an auction system for inactive wallets, calling the ideas “thought experiments” with execution rules not yet written.
