Cointime update: A lawsuit made public this week alleges ChatGPT spent months generating a personalized plan that helped North Carolina woman Cheryl Gates plot to poison her husband, James Gates. James also accuses OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman of failing to build safeguards to stop the conversations, which the suit says continued even after Cheryl’s questions became obviously suspicious. A grand jury indicted Cheryl in October on attempted first-degree murder and food contamination charges. OpenAI says it banned the user and provided information to law enforcement.
