Cointime update: Researchers at the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Physics have prepared a series of amorphous halide solid electrolytes, xNaBF₄–ZrCl₄, using low-cost NaBF₄ and ZrCl₄ precursors via a one-step mechanochemical method. The material achieves a room-temperature ionic conductivity of 1.01 mS/cm, and an all-solid-state sodium battery assembled with it cycled stably for 400 cycles over 2.5–4.2 V while showing strong low-temperature capacity retention.
