The 8% ANTHROPIC Arbitrage: Pre-IPO Perpetuals and the Share-Count Puzzle

Pre-IPO perpetual contracts for Anthropic are creating an 8% cross-platform arbitrage opportunity, but shrinking spreads, funding costs, and uncertainty over the final share count make it a risky bet.

The 8% ANTHROPIC Arbitrage: Pre-IPO Perpetuals and the Share-Count Puzzle

As anticipation builds around a potential Anthropic IPO, traders are flocking to pre-IPO perpetual contracts tied to the AI company’s shares. On Hyperliquid, the xyz:ANT contract quotes a per-share price, while Binance’s ANTHROPICUSDT and OKX’s equivalent use different notional bases—10 billion and 100 billion shares, respectively. This mismatch has spawned a cross-platform arbitrage strategy: go long the cheaper side, short the pricier side, and wait for convergence when the contracts eventually rebase to the actual IPO share count.

What the Trade Actually Captures

The core of the arbitrage lies in the conversion ratio. Based on a detailed reading of Anthropic’s prospectus, analysts estimate a post-IPO share count of roughly 12.7 billion shares, with a fully diluted figure near 16.7 billion. Using the 12.7 billion estimate, one Binance ANTHROPIC unit equates to about 12.7 Hyperliquid xyz:ANT shares. Traders long 12.7 shares on Hyperliquid and short one unit on Binance, pocketing the spread if prices converge.

As of a November 5 snapshot (09:14–09:16 Beijing time), the gross spread for the Binance-Hyperliquid pair was about 8.00%, down from 9.85% a day earlier. The Coinbase/Deribit combination offered 8.39%. These figures are before fees and funding costs, and they are shrinking as more capital piles in.

Liquidity and Funding Costs Matter

Order book depth reveals a stark difference: Binance shows about $515,100 in bids within 0.5% of the best price, while Deribit has only $31,300—a 16x gap. Small traders may prefer Deribit’s higher quotes, but large orders will eat through the book and erode the spread.

On-chain data shows Hyperliquid’s xyz:ANT has $29.8 million in 24-hour volume and $59.13 million in open interest. Entropy’s io:ANTH is even larger, with $64.44 million volume and $117 million open interest. However, funding rates differ dramatically: over the past 24 hourly settlements, xyz accumulated 0.0016% in funding, while Entropy racked up 0.2345%. For a $10,000 long position, that’s $0.16 versus $23.45 in funding costs—a critical drag on the Entropy leg.

What to Watch

Three variables will determine the trade’s profitability: the final share conversion ratio, the executable spread, and cumulative funding costs. At current prices, the breakeven share count is approximately 13.72 billion. If the final count approaches that level, the 8% gross edge could vanish entirely. Arbitrageurs must also consider that any change in exchange rules or contract mechanics could upend the entire structure.

As the IPO approaches, expect volatility in both the spreads and the share-count estimates. The trade is not risk-free—it is a bet on convergence, liquidity, and the accuracy of prospectus math.
