Crypto Market’s Year of Divergence: BTC Holds 61.8% Retracement as HYPE and ZEC Defy the Bear

A year-long review of ten crypto assets reveals a market of stark divergence: BTC and BNB held key Fibonacci levels, while HYPE and ZEC delivered triple-digit gains. The analysis underscores a shift toward cash-flow-based valuation and highlights liquidity, real revenue, and structural events as the key drivers for 2026.

A Year in Three Acts

The past year in crypto was not a simple bull-bear cycle but a three-act drama: a November 2025 peak, a deep bear market through mid-2026, and a Q3 recovery followed by a secondary pullback in October-November. Data from HTX’s USDT-margined perpetual futures, covering 367 days from November 4, 2025 to November 5, 2026, shows a market that fell, repaired, and fell again — but with stark divergence across ten representative assets.

The Numbers That Matter

  • BTC: Down 21.8% over the year, the shallowest decline among the ten. It found a low of $57,761 on July 1, 2026, and has since reclaimed the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement at $76,852, now trading near $80,700 and approaching the 50% level at $82,749.
  • ETH: Fell 30.7%, with a maximum drawdown of 55.7%. It has recovered the 61.8% retracement at $2,337 and is eyeing the 50% level at $2,594.
  • SOL: Down 40.3%, stuck between the 61.8% ($102.77) and 78.6% ($84.03) retracements. It remains a high-beta play.
  • BNB: Dropped 24.2%, the second-shallowest decline. It is sitting exactly at its 61.8% retracement of $721, showcasing the resilience of exchange cash flows.
  • XRP: Lost 42.6% and is testing the 78.6% retracement at $1.33 from below. Its low came unusually late, in August 2026.
  • DOGE: The worst performer, down 52.9%, hovering just 14% above its yearly low. Meme assets have no cash flow anchor and suffered the deepest de-rating.
  • LINK: Fell 23.9% but has reclaimed the 61.8% retracement at $10.74, now approaching the 50% level at $11.89.
  • HYPE: Up 115.7%, one of only two gainers. The decentralized perpetual DEX token hit a high of $98.1 and trades at $84.4, pricing in real revenue and buybacks.
  • ZEC: The top performer, up 232.0%. The privacy coin surged from $184.63 to $1,691, driven by a narrative shift and despite a 72.1% intra-year drawdown.
  • TAO: Down 41.9%, but precisely bounced 8% from its 78.6% retracement at $219.5, validating that level as support.

Analysis: Cash Flow Is King

The divergence is not random. The two positive performers — HYPE and ZEC — represent two distinct themes: real cash flow from DeFi derivatives and the resurgence of privacy. Meanwhile, assets with no cash flow, like DOGE, were punished most. This year’s market voted with real money: projects with actual revenue and buyback mechanisms commanded a premium, while pure narrative assets halved. The lesson for 2026 is clear: price with returns, not stories.

Fibonacci retracements have proven eerily accurate. BTC, BNB, LINK, and TAO all found precise support or resistance at these long-term levels, suggesting that market memory is anchored to the full range of the year’s high and low. These levels provide a disciplined framework for positioning: support and resistance are defined, and traders can act on breakouts or failures rather than emotions.

Forward Look: Three Main Threads

First, liquidity. The Federal Reserve’s rate path, especially the December decision, will dictate the valuation center for all risk assets. For DOGE and other liquidity-sensitive tokens, this is existential.

Second, cash flow. The market’s preference for revenue-generating protocols like HYPE is likely to deepen. Expect more projects to emphasize buybacks, real yield, and sustainable tokenomics.

Third, structural events. The approval of XRP and SOL spot ETFs, regulatory shifts in privacy, and bank-grade RWA infrastructure adoption could each trigger independent rallies. These are the catalysts that can break an asset away from the broader market.

In a market of diverging currents, discipline beats conviction. The map is drawn; now it’s about navigating the waters.
